Several years ago I came across this Ted Talk by Elizabeth Gilbert on banishing fear and welcoming the creative. Today I listened to it again. What a great reminder for everyone to embrace the creative and to show up no matter what.
Sometimes I mash it up in my No Excuses Journal by sketching things I have seen during the week. I take a slew of pictures with my iPhone and oftern sit down when I have a minute and sketch from a photo then pick up at another time and do another quick sketch - by the end of the week I often have a full spread and can sit down with some watercolors and add some color.
This page is from a day sitting at the beach - I just drew what was in front of me and jotted down some writing about the day - later I picked up some watercolor crayons and added a touch of color.
I love to find these old flower frogs at swap meets and use them to hold my watercolor brushes.
The brushes stand up straight and the bristles are dry perfectly. I always keep the brushes I am using on a project right in front of me standing up in one of these.

NEW TO NO EXCUSES JOURNALING? No Problem - start here:
No More Excuses Art Journaling Series
The program is centered on using a desk calendar as the basis of an art journal while incorporating art journaling, goal setting, writing, idea making, sketching, watercoloring, stamp carving and collage. It is a daily, weekly, and monthly system that provides prompts, ideas, quotes, poems, and reminders to add to your journal.
Through this process you learn step by step pen and ink drawing and introduction to watercolor to name a few of the skills. Students who had never picked up a brush end up going on to confidently paint using watercolors. Seasoned artists have used this program as a springboard for their own work. Both rave about these workshops. It's like getting a jammed packed art infusion over the course of a year in only minutes a day.
You will receive prompts, ideas, quotes, poems, and reminders to add to your journal.
