.... without ... a horse in my keeping, I should feel I had lost contact with the earth.
I should be as concerned as a Buddhist monk having lost contact with Nirvana.
~ Beryl Markham
I found this quote and for the first time I felt that what my heart is feeling was expressed aptly in words. This is how I feel. So I started riding with a trainer that I have really connected with 3 times a week - and it is helping - helping me heal. Above is a painting I am working on as a study in preparation for this ...
a 36" x 60" painting that captures the spirit of my beloved mare - my sweet Ebony - it is helping
~ a friend told me that in processing this grief that she (Ebony) and I were both numb - but in time that her spirit would return to me and become part of me - to give me strength, courage, and safety
... it is beginning
Stage 1
Laying out a drawing to find scale on red rosin paper first
Stage 2
Drawing on the canvas
Stage 3
Laying down first paint layer
.... to be continued
Hi Gina,
Sometimes we forget that grief has no timetable and that we all have to do it at our own spirit's pace. It is beautiful to know that you are doing this and using little magical tools given to you along the way to make it through the process. The painting is a beautiful tribute to your friend...
take good care of you,
Kim

What a soulful, beautiful, and therapeutic piece of art--Ebony would be proud of her mama!
