I am heading back east this week for my father's SURPRISE 70th birthday ( he does not know I am coming ;) so there will be two surprises. I made this piece using his baby picture to be blown up poster size for his party - cuteness of it ;)

Here are some of my favorite .... I am very picky about the way they feel in my hand and how hot they keep the coffee and tea. These are all original ceramic artist pieces - no doubt - always on the lookout for new and interesting ones.
I got a bee in my bonnet this evening and decided to spruce up the studio. Maybe it was because I spent the day with Judi yesterday who is the queen of organizing and beautifying her studio or maybe because I am joining her bright and early tomorrow morning to go on the Arroyo Arts Collective Studio tour. Whatever the reason it feels good that it happened ;)
My mom wanted a painting based on this sculpture she got in Mexico of Saint Francis of Assisi.
Here is the progression
sketch and lay down color blocks
start adding details and write St. Francis prayer on background.
St. Francis 24x36
add finish details and pan pastel to background
I hope she likes it
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace, Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy; O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
