Well, Home from the Lake Saturday night. Here is the weekend in review:
Made anklet yesterday fro myself - vintage blue rosary from Judi, vintage button, Turkish evil eye, and Mary medal - I like it and it feels good on my foot.
Kidlet broke my latest little camera (thank goodness not the big gun) at the lake so I replaced it with this little guy - A Lumix - which is a Panesonic with a Leica lens. And I have to say I quite like it so far.
BOOK REVIEW #2:
Blue Shoe by Anne Lamott - Loved it - I am on a role with her as of late and can't wait to start her next book today.
The Senator's Wife by Sue Miller - umm, liked the writing as I like the author but it left me feeling a sense of discomfort at the end of the novel - hmmm - worth the read and I think it would make for a great book club discussion and it is a heavy topic for women.
Lucky me that there is a photographer in the Armfield Family and a really good one to boot! Rebecca our cousin took these shots for us at the lake. I can't wait to have them printed and hung in the house and they will probably end up on a Christmas card as well. You can check out all her fab pics here at Rebecca Armfield Photography
So far I have finished 4 books on the trip and yes, yes, bought countless more ...
But for the moment here is the Review - in my humble opinion
**** Rosie by Ann Lamott - fabulous - wonderful writing - went and purchased the only the other they had on the shelves here - the blue shoe - starting it tonight - and yes went and ordered 3 others off of Amazon.
*** Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen - nice story - enjoyable read - very warm view of books in one's life - definitely do not judge a book by its God Awful Cover - for cryin out loud it looks like a harlequin romance novel!!
* Comfort Food by Kate Jacobs - Don't bother
**** The Painter from Shanghai by Jennifer Cody Epstein - lovely novel - well written and lyrical - think memoirs of a geisha meets Georgia O'Keefe.
I will leave you with this from the Sugar Queen - when one of the character's is asked why they have so many books that are unread and that they keep buying more - why? The answer is that they are like family or old friends in the house they are a comfort company for loneliness
I couldn't agree more ...
I have started a new blog about the horses in my life and my journey with them
